Asymmetrical Awareness

Developing better body awareness through explorative movement

Body asymmetry is something we are all born with. Our bodies only have only one of most of our major organs, our liver is on our right side, stomach and heart on our left, etc. Life is also performed asymmetrically. Most of us become right or left handed, we perform activities like driving where we use only our right leg, we take up asymmetrical sports like tennis, golf, or that involve throwing or kicking with the dominant hand/leg, or play instruments like guitar or violin that are also played asymmetrically. These asymmetrical characteristics can create subtle weaknesses and instability that can lead to injuries and/or pain. While our bodies will never be perfectly symmetrical, being mindful of muscular asymmetry can help cultivate better body awareness, and help address weaknesses and vulnerability that are related to asymmetry. This site will hopefully evolve to share helpful movements that people can explore, to help cultivate better body awareness and symmetry.

Most people have more health issues than just body asymmetry. As a population, the United States is pretty unhealthy on many levels, from high incidences of disease or depression, to widespread obesity. In order to address that, we all need to learn how we can best help ourselves, and others. We have a for profit health care system that treats symptoms rather than assessing root causes, and does not advocate much about healthy living, preventative care, or personal responsibility. Health is not always within our control, yet when it comes to improving and maintaining physical health, some of the best actions that people can take like eating well and exercising (or at least not being sedentary) are mostly a matter of discipline. Several pages on this site share information about aspects of nutrition and digestion that may be helpful.

This website is NOT a business, and for now I am seeking to help people without accepting payment. Out of compassion and respect for the many burdens people carry, it would be an honor to help lighten some of them, whether it is in the form of physical weight, or physical or emotional pain. The purpose of this website is to share helpful information about nutrition, anatomy, movement and muscular mechanics, or other topics in the hopes of helping people improve any aspect of their health and life. If anybody wants to chat about anything on this site, feel free to message me in the contact page or send me an email.

This website is a work in progress, especially when it comes to explorative movements which will hopefully become a significant portion of content. In addition to information about nutrition/digestion and energy/movement, there are tabs on spirituality and synchronicity, to relate some of my personal experiences, as well as on music, movies, and comedy. One of my favorite things about the internet is the availability of various forms of entertainment media, and the ease of sharing. I included some of my favorites because I think our souls benefit, especially music and people who can make us laugh.
